Your steering clutches are wearing out of just need an ajustment. A 610 should only have about 5 inches lever travel forward to reverse. Remove the large round caps in the side pannels between the wheels, pull out the cotterpins holding the nuts and tighten each one about the same until proper lever travel is restored. be careful not to over tighten, or they will bind, (fight each other, and you loose nuteral) check with a dealer and get a copy of that page of the service manual. If you loose one lever, one direction sudenly, it means that you lost a thrust bearing. I had a 610 for 16 years, actually they are quite simple.
