I still have my 65 SS Chevelle with a 327. But, I miss my 65 GTO. As far as my interest goes, 64 and 65 were the only good Goat years. I had a 389 tripower in one, and a 421 in the other. Both had Muncie M21s that were always falling apart. Not much RPM but amazing torque. Most tri-power Goats could be spotted from a disance since they usually had three small burn-holes in the hood from the carbs catching fire.
That all being said, back in 70s, I got hooked on Sunbeam Tigers. Designed/converted by Carol Shelby. Called the "poor mans Cobra" at the time. British Rootes-Group Sunbeam Alpine sportcar with a Ford V8 and four-speed jammed into it along with a Jeep rear. Basically just an engine on wheels. My first had a 260 V8. My second had a built 302 and would beat most big-block Chevys. Amazing little cars. They're worth a fortune now, but I guess they all are from back then. I'll add that my boss back in the 60s had a Buick GranSport and that was one heck of a nicely built car. Too fancy and expensive for me, but a good runner, just the same.
