I don't think anyone in all of Wisconsin (atleast not within 75-100 miles of us) is even thinking about corn till it wamrs up a little bit. We did get our oats in, which can handle the cold. Been raining on & off since we got done on Saturday, and not any real heavy fast rains either. All soakers that do more good and we needed it. The ground was quite dry when I was drilling the oats.
I've been working on the corn planter this past week to get it ready. Adjusted the seed rate for around 30,000/acre, and dropped the fertilizer rate as last year it was put in way too heavy. I think by back figuring that we have the low rate augers in our planter (495A) and I set it for about 160 lbs/acre. Last year was almost 2x that and that was waste. Got the planter ready to go now.
Now we just need to get the fertilizer, after we figure out how many acres we actually have to plant. Right now we have 2 bigger feilds, but can't remember off hand how many acres they are without looking at plot maps. Got 1 or 2 more hay feilds we're looking at plowing under later on, but then we'll order more fertilizer if we need it for those feilds.
Next week's project is fixing the apron chain in one of our boxes, and maybe putting it on a different running gear.
