Jubilee Timing

(cross posted to the Ford list) While painting my 53 NAA, I removed the distributor cap to get some paint behind it. I marked the wires as I took them off of the plugs. When put back together, the engine would not run. I determined that the only way to make it run was to swap the plug wires (essentially rotating the firing sequence 180 degrees). I determined this by pulling #1 plug and jacking the engine until air pushed out. It will run like this, but has an extreme amount of crankcase pressure. While running, I can remove any plug wire with no noticeable change in engine sound. My problems are: (1) I am certain that I had the cap indexed properly, but when #1 comes up to TDC, it matches the 180 change that I made. The cap has a notch and will only go on one way. (2) The engine has never pressurized the crankcase like this before. It has lots of hours, but registers about 130 psig compression on all four (still). I am not much of a mechanic and I am a little bit lost at this point, so any ideas that anyone has will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike Cuthriell
