hope you never get cancer, but if you do, you will wish (DESIRE) not to have cancer, even though you have it,
and if you would want it your way, you can wish (Desire) all you want, but you still have it,

on the other hand, when you have cancer, you could demand that it go away, but then, you also could wish that it go away, (Desire)

so in respect, a wish is a weak demand (or a Desire) ....just like I said...it all depend on how you look at it.

just to be nice, I wish (Desire) you could understand, but If I demand that you understand, that would be a harsh desire, but yet if I wish (desire) you understand, that also is a hope for some thing uncontrollable from my stand point, just like a demand or Desire.
