John B. said: (quoted from post at 06:08:18 05/12/09) Richard, rotate the tire so the stem is at the top and you won't get as much water in your gage if any. Pressure is pressure wether it's liquid or air. The air pressure in a tire with fluid & air will have the same amount of pressure in it at any area of the tire. So the tire pressure is the same for fluid or just plain air in a tire. It puts the same amount of force on the tire. It's just like a gallon of water is the same as a gallon of mud, just one is denser than the other.
The pressure in a tire will NOT be the same all over in the tire if there is fluid in it. The weight of the liquid must also be figured into the equation.
Water exerts about .433 PSI per foot of height. For example, if the tire were filled to a level of four feet of water, the pressure on the bottom of the tire would be 1.73 PSI greater than the reading of the air pressure at the top of the tire. If you have CaCl as the solution the weight will be even greater depending upon how much salt per gallon is used.
