Karl, on my personal tractors I sandblast everything that is removable & not damaged by sand, for the rest of the tractor that is the main case, trans case & anything that has bearings & shafts & seals still in it I first use paint remover, then a big power rotary wire brush, then small rotary wire brushes on a diegrinder, then hand scrapers & scotch pads, then I wash real good with enamel reducer & scotch pads, then I use a rust killer (not a rust converter) then a good HOT water wash then, 2-3 coats of epoxy primer( very expensive but very effective in sealing out future rust) then a quick going over with scotch pads, then blow off with compressed air, go over it with a tack cloth, then 2-3 coats of color coat with hardener (your choice of color & quality), John Deere paint looks good for a while but if left out in the sun very much will fade (not very much UV protection in J.D. paint). Basically in paint you get what you pay for... For $30.00 a gallon you get paint, for $100.00 a gallon you get very good paint. On the sheetmetal I use paint remover then a VERY LIGHT sand blast if required ( I try not to sandblast the sheetmetal if possible, because of the warpage problem) then any metal work & straightening, Then a rust killer (not rust converter), then hot water wash, then sanding with an air file if needed (shows the high spots), then filler if needed & air file work, then 2-3 coats of epoxy primer (DP-36 or 40), then a very light coat of flat black (to see how flat it is when sanding, the black will stay in the low spots to show them), then hours of wet sanding re-priming & flat black until it is flat & smooth, then a final wet sanding with 400 wet & dry, then wash with water & drying, then blow off with compressed air, then going over with a tack cloth, then 2-3 coats of color coat with hardener (the same as on the castings, your choice of color & quality).......If it sounds like a whole lot of expense & work "IT IS", but the results are very pleasing.

Show Coverage: Journey to Ankeny - by Cindy Ladage. We left Illinois on the first day of July and headed north and west for Ankeny, Iowa. Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
