Of course engineers will not always agree and so changes take place. Construction tractor backhoes tend to have other needs. The 45 degree open lugs was very common for many years in the cornbelt, I believe, due to muddy fall picking conditions. Rice tires tend to be closed I suppose because of their field conditions. etc. I tend not to agree that older designs were harder riding. Air pressure and amount of "plys" may have had a bigger role on hard riding. harvey
