I have used the loader to lift the front end. With the bucket rolled back and a chain supporting the end of the axle, I drove the tractor on and off a flat bed to get it to the shop. If you have a double acting loader it should lift the front of the tractor off the ground then use blocks under the engine-transmission seam while you fix it. It sounds like you have a later model utiliy tractor. Is it a 2950 MFWD by chance. I have repaired two of them one twice with broken axles. If you have a single acting loader the easiest thing to do is to lift it with another loader then block under it before you fix it. Jacking it up would be difficult and dangerous. If you have to take it up a little at a time and use lots of blocks, repositioning them as you go up. My neighbor used his A JD to lift his 4010 last week after breaking an spindle. Good luck.
