Don't know the name of the company or even how to search for it but there is an add in the back of one of the magazines I get that might be what you need if a head gate is not an option. Theres this out fit that sells syrenges on about a 6' stick. You can walk by and hit'm and don't have to get too close. The same add also shows an bow and arrow set up for a little wilder critters that is good out to like 20'. If I have a chance in the morning I will try to look for the add.
You might want to check around some and see if you can rent a head gate close to home. Our county extension office has one.
