Hauling beans 8 miles to market with my 2 wagons hooked together. front one holds 350 bushels and has breaks, back one 250. Heard a tire blow and looked in mirror as I was stopping only to see a cloud of smoke coming from back wagon. Well what a peculiar chain of events. It apears the rim split on a stearing wheel causing the tube to blow. when the loaded wagon dropped down on the rim it caused the stearing arm to break which then let the wheel turn perpendicular to direction of travel. So I dragged that flat tire crossways until I got stopped causeing it to burn smoke on the black top shoulder. This all happened in about 10 seconds time. I was so thankfull the wagon did not tip over. So I go home and get jacks and blocks and tools and take it all apart and weld the arm back and rob a tire off another wagon and put it all back together. When I am jacking it up to put tire on it slips off jack falling to the ground which caused one of the 4X6 to crack and dropping the box enough on that side that the wagon tips over in the ditch. Things could not have gone worse if I had tried. Anyway, rented a grain vac from the coop and sucked it up and into another wagon. Tipped the broken wagon uprite and finally got everything home. at 10:30. Whew.

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule.
