People have talked about functional drunks and drug users. My experience has been "show me the functional dope smoker" because I have yet to meet one. Have them in my family (blood and in-laws) and the one thing they have in common is no motivation/desire. These people have trouble holding any kind of job and usually are sponging off of others. In a lot of cases if they could not leach they would probably turn to crime to find the money to survive (remember, they do not work but still eat and want shelter). As far as pot making people more mellow, all they do is complain they can't find a decent spouse, home, vehicle. etc. I guess they can't make the mental connection between near non-existent income and having material things. I think far more people would object to legalization if they thought about it in terms of their tax money going to support these people (welfare/disability) or their possessions stolen not just for drug money but basic survival (they still dislike living in the elements and like to eat).
