IHC 574 hydraulics diagnosis

This is a plea for some of the wisdom often exhibited on this board. The problem is that my 574 diesel is getting old (will need engine overhall soon) but the real problem is the hydraulics just went out coinciding with a whining sound coming from under the seat. The funny thing is the hydraulics work briefly (for about 1 to 2 seconds) after the engine is started, then the whining noise begins and the hydraulics quit working. I would be grateful for any advise.
