Depends on what year. "04 and early is a 5 speed and "05 and later is a 6. Wish my "04 had that next gear. It"s humming down the road past 60 and uses way too much fuel. Those motors only barely need to be turning over to run down the interstate. Rear end ratio obviously matters also. We pull trailers every day and I would keep buying 8.1"s if they made them. Everything I have gets 8 mpg while pulling--8.1"s, 6.0"s, 350 Vortecs. But the 8.1"s pull 10,000 lbs. or more with ease. But if you"re not pulling all the time, the 8.1 gets really thirsty. Only GM"s here also.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet).
