The resistor goes in the wire between the ignition switch and the coil. The purpose is to cut the voltage back to 6.7v to prevent burning the points. Most ignitions have some method to use 12v to start then switch to the wire with the resistor to run. Most use the start soleniod to accompolish this. It seems that on these old Fords tho, that they start fine on 6.7v. I have no idea where the notion of using a 6v coil when switching to 12v system came from. I had never heard of it until I started reading posts on this forum.
