It would depend on condition of the rest of the tractor, and what comes with it. For a beat up, worn out tractor with no options other than PTO and 3 Point, maybe as little as $300 for what he has. For an overall fairly nice tractor with just a worn engine, maybe $1000 to $1500. Options like loaders, remote valves, weights, or power steering add to the value. The tractor would be worth a lot more if it was running, even if it was running poorly. Then it would be possible to see if the 3 point works and how well the rest of the tractor operates.
A diesel engine can end up costing a lot to rebuild, especially if the injection pump needs to be worked over. A gas engine is less expensive to rebuild, but since the tractor is set up to be a diesel, converting to the gas engine might cause the need to find a bunch of parts to make it work right.
If the tractor is taken apart very much, that really lowers the value, since most people want to take things apart themselves, probably mostly to see just how they fit together. I have gotten a couple of "basket case" cars that were all over the former owner's garages. Since I paid almost nothing for what was there, I made out OK on them. But it would have been a whole lot easier if I had been able to do the disassembly rather than putting loose parts in multiple cardboard boxes from piles here and there.
If it was close and cheap, I would be interested, maybe to part it out or fix it up. But Texas is just way too far away to consider it. Good luck!
