I second the suggestion to use Firefox with the Adblock and Flashblock plugins.
For news, the site I think reports without putting their own spin on is www.reuters.com They tend to cover business news a bit more than most but otherwise objective.
MSNBC, CNN, and NPR are pretty far left; Fox about the same to the right. All are okay if you want to get their take on the news, but keep in mind that they're all very slanted. CNN and NPR are more subtle, Fox, and MSNBC don't even try to hide it.
