If you get a hard rain that makes a crust the deep ones might have a little trouble, but beans have a lot of push when they come up.
Years ago when I was planting with the IH 58 plate planter I had a good unintentional test of what a difference in planting depth can do. I'd been planting beans into disked corn stalks, and had the planter set deeper to get the seed down there to 1 1/2" in the firmer soil. When that field was finished I went to a field that had been fall plowed and it was soft peat to boot so this soil was really soft. I'd planted about 300 feet and decided to check the depth and found it was WAY deep, so I shallowed it up. We didn't have rain after that so the soil was dry, and the deep planted beans came up first by a long shot. It looked like the planter had worked for 300 feet and then stopped. A couple of days later the shallow beans came up but the stand wasn't anything to brag about. The deep planted beans had a near perfect stand. Jim
