Did you convert the electrical system from 6v to 12V and not change to a 12v coil or put a resistor inthe ignition primary circuit to limit the primary current? the coil can only take ~ 4amps max and if it's a typical 6 volt coil used with a 12 system your putting about 8 amps through it. That will cause the coil to overheat and the points to burn also. Either that or your voltage regulator is not regulating the volltage correctly.
