Sounds like you're doing like I did some years ago. You're trying to tackle the problem from the wrong end. Get with a local independent insurance agent and declare the truck for personal private use with a low declared weight and register it for 40,000 lbs or so. The lower weight registration is cheaper and you won't have to pay the Fed Road use Tax. I have a truck that's basically what you're talking about, except that we use this one for animal transport. I was able to get a farm exemption form from the DOT local office for the truck. You can get it to haul equipment too. With the exemption you are released from the law requiring the $750,000 liability ins, you can get by with a $50,000 limit and it's perfectly legal because they're releasing your truck from the DOT and ICC regs on freight carriers. If you get the exemption and go ahead and get the IRP licence plates, and your home state fuel users permit you won't have to have any other permits, you'll just have to keep up with the miles traveled in each state and the fuel purchases. The IRP licence plate here in Texas cost almost $700 yearly, the fuel permit is free, and the insurance is $850 with no limits on trip distance.

If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
