First year I hayed was 1975, used an 8N Ford on a MF Dyna-balance sickle bar mower; IH W4 on an old AC Rake/Tedder (side delivery rake, PTO driven, lever reversed the direction of tines so you could "ted", after a fashion, until all the tines were broken), and JD 420 tractor (live PTO) on a 1959 Ford 250 baler. Final year was 2002 or thereabouts, mowed with IH 674 on a Taarup 3 point mower conditioner, Oliver 550 on a Deutz-Fahr rake/tedder and NH 275 baler.
Never enjoyed it much- I don't do too well in the sun and the heat. Wife now makes arrangements for hay purchase (about 600 bales) in the field and hay crew (they're her horses), and the best years are when its all done before I get home from work.
