They dig holes sometimes as big as a foot across and who knows how deep. I am in SW Arkansas, and they came here from Texas. Back in the old days of tractors without power steering, I have almost broken my wrist more than once when the front wheel went into a hole. They are usually only out at night. A few years ago, one of our good neighbors who moved from Ca. called the game warden on us for shooting after night. We had already contacted him, but the lady worked for a local radio station and caused him so much heat, that he told us to stop hunting them. Now we probably have 50 holes or more in our hay field. A few years ago, we went hauled dirt and filled them all up, but they are back again. You can't even ride a 4 wheeler or drive a truck thru your field without danger of a wreck or tearing something up. My advice to everyone is to kill every armadillo they see. They are also the only animal alive that carries leprosy.
