Put a rebuilt 466 IH diesel in my combine this year. Installation instructions said no prelube, no warranty.I plumbed a little electric gear pump into the main oil gallery and slowly pumped the whole 5 gal of oil in this way. I used to do circle track racing, the cars would corner hard enough that the oil would run right up the side of the pan and uncover the oil pickup.Not a real good deal at 8000 rpm. You could buy a high $ baffled oilpan that would get trashed if the engine blew up, or use somthing called an Accusump. This is just an air over oil accumulator that holds 2 qts oil. If the oil pickup got uncovered the accumulator would supply oil pressure untill you got around the turn. Never had a bearing failure with that thing. one other advantage was we had a ball valve between the accumulator and the engine so we could rev the engine to max oil pressure and close the valve to trap 2 qts of 80 psi oil in the accumulator.Before the next start you opened the valve and the engine had oil pressure before it turned over. As I recall this outfit was avalible with a solenoid valve wired to the ign switch for automatic preoiling.
