Dad is 80 this year and has started slowing down considerably. It hurts to see such big strong man have trouble getting around. He called yesterday to tell my brother and I that the battery in his pickup was going bad and since we were coming that way how about bring one when we came. We bought him a new one and told him Happy Fathers Day. Dad is and always was a hard working honest Man although he saw himself as a farmer he would do almost any honest work to feed his family. Back in the early 70's he had several bad years farming in a row where he lost money (at the time I didn't understand how you could loose money that you didn't have). It was a very desperate time for our family to say the least. One day dad got a call about a caretaker job over a large plantation. It seemed to be the answer to all our prayers. Dad went to talk to the person that contacted him about the job and when he came home he just told us that he didn't get the job. We were all disappointed and in the end Dad quit farming and we moved to town. Dad did not elaborate on what happened but a few years ago I asked him. He laughed and told me that it was a widowed woman that owned the plantation and she made it very plain what she expected of him when ever she showed up there and He was sure Momma would not go along with it. I love my Dad but I don't think I ever had so much respect for him as I did that moment. Ron

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
