Good points Ken, The info I posted came from diesel engine companies service book's. That EG antifreeze does turn acid with age I know is true as I use the test strips to check for acid level and I use the alkaline additive to bring the PH back to spec. I understand your comment about EG not having any sulfur in it so where does the sulferic acid come from? Do we have a chemist on here who can help us out? And the rust and flake off process to causing sleeve pitting is not strictly from detonation vibrating the rust flakes off, as you say it is cavatation bubbles forming and collapsing on the cyl surface causing the erosion by directly eroding the metal or by scouring off a rust flake that formed on that spot. Most of the diesel cooling additives have not only materials to neutralize acid but somthing that I can describe as a slime layer that coats the surface of the cooling system to prevent rusting or other corrosion and stop cavation bubbles from acting directly on the cyl wall surface.

Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father ... [Read Article]
