Tom, Glad to see you're here. Does ethylene glycol break down to a carboxy acid (COOH)? Since there are only the elements of C,H, & O present. If a carboxy acid, does one of the metals act as a catylist to form the double bonded oxygen? What other acids could it be? Phenols (ringed alcohol) act as an acid that are organic, but there's no ringed compound here in ethylene glycol. The Iron, and Aluminum compounds don't form strong acids that I know of. Also, to neutralize the acid, can an amine (organic base) be added or should an inorganic buffer such a sodium bicarbonate be added to the coolant? Tom, are you from Texas? Ken McWilliams Dayton, OH
