I measured compression between 110 and 117 on three cylinders and zero on the bad cylinder. I tested all of the cylinders several times. Running the engine, I couldn't really say it was missing badly, but power was bad, it smoked pretty good too. I pulled the spark plugs and they were sooty but the bad cylinder was very oily. That's when I did a compression test. The cylinder with zero compression had no compression at all. I did not try checking the spark on the bad cylinder's plug. I also did not try running the engine with the valve cover off. I did observe that the rocker arms appeared to be actuating the valves on the bad cylinder. What is a leak down test? A friend suggested a sticking valve and told me to take some emry cloth to the valve shafts on the bad cylinder. Regards, Rick from Paso.
