Most of the old wore out Rail Equipment from around ILL went to the Steeel Mill at Sterling ILL. They in turn used any that had some life left in them until they too were beyond repair or need. The Rail stuff was melted down into I beams,Angle Iron, Bar stock,Fence Wire,Nails etc.In the late 60's I had two Steel Hauling Semi's leased to Aetna Freight lines and Sterling Steel was a major source of Freight for us to haul.I had 3 Semis actually. 2 Mack B75's with 250 Turboed Cummins and 15 speeds Triplex Trans and a Cab over KW w/385 cummins and 16 speed Spicer Trans.I drove the KW leased to Ranger Lines out of ILL.. Just a note for the old truckers from that era to reminice about.
