A 6volt coil will over heat on 12 volts and start misfireing sometimes they crack open. The coil will not imideately burn out. So if your tractor runs for a long time ok,it's probably a 12 volt. To avoid the problem of missmatched parts i used all parts from the same car or manufactuer. From personal experince i can tell you the points and condenser will not last long without a resitor. We used to get 10 to 15 hours use for each condenser before the resitor with charge system working. Running with just a battery they last longer.
