GEO, just this morning I checked on a man with a combine that would not start. The conditions for harvest have been ideal and they had been working on the machine for three days. Machine had been started on Monday and was being driven to the fuel storage area and it died. Would not restart. They changed all filters and tried with no luck. Called "mechanic" and he diagnosed the problem as bad injector pump. Pump was removed and transported 87 miles one way for rebuild. Pump was picked up Tuesday and reinstalled. Combine would not start and was given up on by first "mechanic". Second "mechanic" was called in. Pump timing and bleeding etc. performed all over again. Still would not crank. This morning the machine would not turn decently with the starter even with the booster position on the charger. Removed the long existing battery and installed a good high amp one and the machine started almost immediately. Obviously, you and I are in agreement as to the need for a good battery. Besides aiding in cranking it prolongs the life of the starter.
