Little different, I never thought I would own one, but my 850 ford is LP powered, it has a 30 lb tank on it, same as a forklift, they made these with factory and fixed tanks as shown.
With the 30 lab tank, it's easy to keep a spare nearby, though you pay more to have them filled, if I was set up with a tank and could fill my own 30lb tanks, price would be much less.
I remember doing what was described, idling down to get a forklift to make it go as far as you needed. The 850 will do it, but on the flat, crawl/idle and then its out, never measured or thought about how far it goes on this kind of a reserve amount of fuel, seems to shut down close to when it starts to sputter. Often times, opposite side of the field is where my spare is, some times I carry it in the bucket, secured, refueling is quick and easy, you get several hours of run time. I could fit a 40 lb tank, but probably too heavy to heft up onto the tank mount when full, but 2 30 lb'ers gives me just about enough run time for most things, I could use a 3rd tank once in awhile.
One thing I don't know much about is the vapor/liquid valves and adjustments like for cold weather starts, on older factory models of most manufacturers, apparently you can adjust things, I've always wondered if those set ups allowed you some reserve vapor if you played it smart like was mentioned, idle down to a creep etc.
