I'm mildy familar with older JDs but came across one a few months ago that stumped me. It looked like a worn out JD "M" slightly older than the 1952 MT I drove as a teen on my dad's farm. However, the faded hood decals declared it to be a "D" My dad also owned one of those and I know they are a world apart so I assumed someone in the past played decal swap as a joke. However, in the few minutes I had to look it over, I noticed "Model D" stamped in a couple places, one being on the clutch bell housing (left side.) I don't recall any more if that designation was on our MT as well. Curiousity got the better of me a couple weeks ago so I returned to examine it more closely but it was gone. Does anyone know what I saw? So far as I know, the "D" was still in production for at least a couple yrs after this "M" style tractor was made.
