Couple years ago an old Navy buddy of mine shows up here from FL, driving brand new Vette. He was former backseater in F-4's and F-14's. I was a front seater. We flew together quite a bit. He told me he had been getting 28mpg on the trip. I asked him, "How fast you driving?" He said 70. I had bought a new 64 vetter, fuelie, in 1963 and that thing would do 130. So I said I gotta drive it. We dropped onto I-90 and I turned to him and said " I feel the need for speed, Goose". He gave me a big smile, and in an INSTANT we were doing 145 and I didn't really have it all dialed up. We went by a tree hugger in a Prius, prolly doing 55, and I swear it blew him to the right about 5 feet. Wonder what the cops would have done to two 66 year old guys doing 145? I would have claimed I couldn't read the speedo as I didn't have my bifocals on lol.
