PASQUALI PTO selector problem

The original subject was "Re: PASQUALI WIRING".

Problem with Pasquale 986 Tractor

The PTO speed selector is jammed and will not rotate(fwd or
back) or move L to R(in or out of the front gear box).
It seems to be jammed in the out position ( to the Left), with
3/8”,9mm space between the shoulder on the selector axle and
the left side of the gear box, and in neutral ( PTO does not
rotate with engine running ).
If the retaining bolt directly opposite, on R side of gearbox, is
loosened the selector axle can be mover out (left) an additional
¼”,6mm, revealing the seal on this axle, but it will still not rotate
fwd or back.
The jamm is very firm . Rocking it L to R and fwd and back has
work-hardened and broken the bolt which retains the outer,
concentric shifter handle and its concentric sleeve on the
selector axle. Repeatedly tapping it in and out with a rubber
hammer after use of penetrating oil has not worked, including
with clutch in and out, and in all gears.
The PTO at rear of the tractor rotates freely in both directions.

Q1. Does anybody know (a) what causes this problem and
(b) the solution ? Obviously I would prefer not to disarticulate
the tractor and remove rear cover of the front gear box, in which
cover the PTO selector axle is located, if this can be avoided ?

Q2. Can anyone share an illustration/diagram of the
arrangement of this axle inside the rear cover of the front gear
box . My service manual does not show it, and my parts list
seems to be for a different model.

Q3. Apart from the retaining bolt and a roll pin, should there be
any additional parts retaining the outer, concentric sleeve and
handle(lever) on the PTO selector axle ?

Q4. If the retaining bolt on the R side is completely removed,
and the PTO selector axle is drawn even further out ( to the left),
(a) will this help free it up, and
(b) can the axle then be easily slid back into place ?

I’d appreciate advice , and a copy of the diagram/illustration of
the internal arrangement of the PTO speed selector on the 986.

Today's Featured Article - Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned. But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga ...
