Yep it has a screen in there or should have. Those fuel shut offs are a problem on those tractors also so once open you should leave it that way or sooner or later you will be replacing it. As for your problem the momnet it dies on you check the spark. It should be a blue white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. If it does not do that and looks yellow you have a spark problem not a fuel problem. Now if the spark is good then open up the main jet adjustment screw a little at a time till you have the power you want either one or both can/will cause your problem
