what you need is a resistor, similar to the firewall mounted resistors used on pre-electronic ignition coils. These dropped the voltage from twelve to about 7.5volts. First try the catalogs at your friendly auto supply house. Have heard of resistor wire, ordinary looking wiring, which over a run will reduce voltage to the voltage needed for instance, at tail lamps on old 6 volt autos. Have heard of old car buffs using this type wire to drop the voltage to what the original radio can live on. Only drawback to resistors, they run quite hot, blistering hot.
