Why are you trying to do this?
Is this on a 12-volt 'conversion'?
If so, and you are using the old 6 volt coil, you will need 2 'resistors in series (the original 'ballast' resistor and a General #RU100 dropping resistor) or you will be frying points and coils. 6 volt coils only want about 3.5 volts with the points closed and 6 volts with the points open. My suggestion is to look in the archives of the N Board. There are about 1 Zillion posts on this in just the last month...
