If one looks back to the beginning most of the early tractors had wide fronts, with the coming of mounted two row cornpickers and front mounted cultivators in the 1920s, makers started doing the row crop models, which almost always had the narrow front/tricycle configuration. Up through the 60s when the mounted pickers started fading away, along with the front mount cultivators, most manufacturers offered a choice of wide or narrow frontends. Some farmers had both, shifting to the wide front for loader use. Then the big rear mount tillge equipment came to be, the tractors got bigger and the tricycle types sat. I don't know when the last tricycle was made, they could still be offered at least in the catalogs. Hope this helps, and as an ex farmer don't think I am too off base with this. John in Nebraska,
