AWB, what year & model John deere do you have. On most three brush generators there are only two wires ARM & FLD exiting the case. The bigger of the two studs is usually the ARM terminal. If you want to know how the wires inside the generator are wired you will have to tell us what year & model. See link below for a basic diagram of a 3 brush set up.
