Most springs in clutches are compressed when the pedal is pushed in.
The clutch disc doesn't always get stuck to the engine flywheel But can also get rusted to the shaft which won't let it release or slide away from the flywheel and/or the pressure plate. The disc can also become stuck to the pressure plate thus causing the transmission shaft to continue to spin. Any three of these problems can cause you not to be able to get the shift lever in or out of gear while the engine is running or make it unable to stop the tractor by pushing in the clutch while driving.
