My 49 8N blowing the blue

My 49 8N just a few weeks ago started eating a lot of oil for no reason and is fouling the plugs. Has ran without flaw for the past 18 months but I have not yet changed the oil and it does look a bit thin, could that be the reason? I worked the old girl last winter clearing snow with no problem and ran her every so often this past summer but now that I need her for this winter she is acting up, any idea's? Blows a lot of smoke after I start her and is fouling out a fresh set of plugs. It's not rich mixture but oil , give me your imput.
