I must admit that today's drivers are unfamiliar with hand signals and many hate to be behind any type of farm machinery.
When I worked at the local ferterlizer company we heard many similar stories.
We finally told them to put turn signals on their equipment. They didn't know it could be done. So they would bring their equipment into us and we wired up lights with a trailer plug that would fit their pickup truck and then wired up their tractors. Putting lights on equipment only takes 15 minutes.
By putting these lights on their equipment made these farmers capable of communicating to other drivers on the road in a way that these other drivers were use to or taught.
It is especially necessary on gravity wagons and hay wagons when loaded where the two drivers can't make eye contact.
You have to make your intentions visible with lights where those behind us can see what our intentions are, such as an upcoming left or right turn.
