A couple of long-timers just got out in the last year. They are both above age 70 and had been carrying minimal debt for quite some time. The Amish and the Mennonites are the only ones milking in the township now. Even they will admit the money they came to New York with is being tapped out if it already has not happened. Like one said, they still have the same overhead structure (fuel, seed , fertilizer, taxes) as everybody else. About the only ones going well are those having outside (the farm) financial resources. I do not see how younger people could do it, otherwise. In those years one is typically paying on a mortgage and improving the farm to make it more labor efficient and generally more productive. The guys that used to preach marketing (i.e contracts) of inputs and farm products were gone before the conservative, older (I'll run junk before I take on debt) farmers. Would like to discuss further but need to batten down the hatches before the thunderstorm hits.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
