I'm sure your 966 will handle that just fine. When I was working for a friend with a 966, we pulled a 14' Sunflower offset disc to break alfalfa and sod, didn't have duals and it handled it just fine at 6 mph. Was funny because it would pull the tractor sideways a bit when I dropped the disc in the ground.
Skip the 86 series and get a 5288 if you're stuck on IH equipment. To really upgrade get a 7220, I've heard that the original 71- and 72-series Magnums were some of the best tractors from CIH.
