In Manitoba we can't insure winter wheat fully unless it is seeded into standing stubble (preferably 12 inch canola stubble). Not only do we need the moisture, we need the snow insulation as well. Best seeding dates here are Aug. 25 to Sept 15. It is often a bit of a trick to get a canola field harvested and reseeded before Sept 15.
