I use a lot of that type of guage on my farm equipment, mainly because that is all the auto parts places carry. Most are not weather sealed,but what you did to seal them will help.My best luck has been to drill a tiny hole in what will be the lowest part of the guage case for a water drain.If you don't need the internal light I would plug it with silicone to keep out water and dust.
