Hail is the dreaded demon every farmer has on the back of his mind all summer long. Even if he has insurance he still doesn't come out well financially if the hard water wipes out the crop.
Last sunday a large area south of me was pounded big time. Nearly every west facing window in one town is broken. I know of at least one church that suffered broken windows during the morning service. The people went to the center of the church but were still dodging hail stones bouncing off the pews. The story came to me from a neighbor who's cousin was in the church so I think it's probably true.
The farmers in that area won't need to get their combines ready for fall unless they had some other land out of the area, and they were looking at the prospect of the best crop ever. Jim
