The Optima glass mat batteries are the answer if you can affoed them They can stay discharged for a year with no damage.I have used both gel cells and Glass mats since 1982. Optima is one of the more expensive brands. I use them in my cars and on my tractor. Gel cells are very finicky when it comes to charging . They need 13.8-13.9v and no more or less. Used them for 12 years in my boat and were still good when I replaced them. Gels were the house batteries ( lights, loran, gps, radar, VHF radio and TV) and Glass mats were the work batteries (starting, anchor winch, dinghy winch and lift). My glas mats cost about $150 ea for a grp 27 and 180 for a grp 30 purchased from a distributor. Optima red tops here are $175 local parts store. Henry
