Ancestors came from Germany and initially settled on Lake Michigan shore on the land now occupied by the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. It was too cold there with that constant wind off the lake so they moved north to Wisconsin. My Grandfather bought the farm I now own in 1901. My father was born in the house here in 1901 and I was also born at home which may sound primitive to younger folk but among those in attendance at my birth were the family doctor who had been a young Army doctor on the battlefields of World War I, our neighbors daughter who was an RN and her aunt who was the neighborhood midwife. I had lots of attention. The nurse still owns her family farm nearby but is nearing age 100 and spends most of her time in Florida. She was an Army nurse during WWII. Went from 2d Lt to Major in four years. She's as smart as her father was and at age 99 is as sharp as can be.
