Hello:
I will give this a try again as my first message was lost. I have a 1952 8N and the starter just hums. The engine won"t turn over. My neighbor said it was the bendix. I tried to remove the starter and their is a butterfly nut right behind the oil filter case in the way. I don"t know what it is for? Also do you have to remove the oil filter case as the armature just won"t seem to slip out far enough.
One more thing and you will all think I am stupid but from the shop manual what I am taking apart sure looks like the generator but I thought the generator was on the tractors right side toward the front? The piece I am trying to remove is on the left side and it looks like their is a solenoid on top. Am I totally lost? Thanks for the help.
